I do not get how they can be paralegals without going through any training or taking a course for a paralegal work. Can you help me understand this concept? Thank you in advance.

Because some lawyers will hire someone they can train, and other lawyers would rather hire a secretary as a paralegal, either because they have the experience to do the paralegal work, or because it’s cheaper for the attorney.

I am the senior paralegal and office administrator at a small law practice and have been for 15 years. The owner (sole proprietor) is planning to retire in a few years and I would like to present him with a business plan that would entail him continuing to receive revenue from the practice after his retirement while I continue

Yes, now doing this would be the tricky part. There needs to be a practicing aty and the changes need to be outlined in new contracts, who’s in charge, how he gets paid, what to do if he no longer wants to be apart of the arrangement. it’s all how you set it up and changes would have to be made based on the specifics how the business is set up and what you spefically had in mind.
